Guard up is the Rivera Memorial Foundation's youth Jiu-Jitsu training program designed to empower kids through movement, mindfulness, and mentorship. built on the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance, Guard Up helps students develop self-defense and self-discipline skills while building confidence, focus and teamwork. Guard up teaches kids the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while also guarding their confidence and character. Through interactive drills, partner practice, and mentorship, participants develop strength, respect, and resilience. The program empowers students to face challenges on and off the mat with courage and compassion. Each session combines technical training with fun, structured activities that teach rea-world lessons--like handling pressure, showing respect, and helping others. Coaches emphasize both athletic and personal growth, ensuring every child learns to "guard up" not only on the mat, but in life.
The program honors the legacy of Heriberto "Eddie" Rivera and Howard Hughes, whose courage and service continue to inspire strength, resilience, and unity in our community.
